‘The Max is a close relative of the Axel. When designing the Max, I had the luxurious seats of the Orient Express in mind. It had to be a sofa with the same monumental allure as the benches in that famous train. I designed the seat in a classic style: the somewhat voluminous look makes you want to sit down and snuggle up against the cushions. At the same time, the slender armrests create an elegant look. I lowered the bottom of the seat, making the sofa seem to float in the room.’
